Chapter 10-That's life.

This past week, I've been at Roncalli working our the 2012-2013 showchoir show. One of the songs that we're doing is called "That's life". A jazzy remake by Michael Buble, the song simply says life will bring what it brings and you've got to roll with the bunches. Live with what you're given and never take it for granted...because lets be honest...how much more time do we really have here?

Chapter 10- And so it goes

The end. It's here. In chapter 10, the book changes point of view from Billy's to Vonnegut's. In the end, they both find there way back to Dresden. As Vonnegut would say "so it goes"(Vonnegut 214). Many of the characters throughout were lost in time. It was the way of life. The circle never ends and Vonnegut surely showed that throughout the book. I enjoyed reading it this summer. Now for school....wahoo.

Chapter 9-Scared to die.

Dying is one of my greatest fears. I'm sure that many others experience this fear as well, but it really gets to me sometimes. I don't want to die anytime soon and I hate it when someone close to me dies or has a death in there family. The feeling of being left alone or leaving someone is the real kicker in this situation. Every person deserves a companion and death is strippin that away. Am I saying I want to live forever...no. I just don't like the thought of leaving people thats all.

Chapter 9-Why must the good die?

Holy crap! I did not see the death of Billy's wife coming. That was just madness and I was not a fan. Billy has a lot stuff going on in his life with time travleing and all, but losing his wife, while unconsious AND time traveling! What are you trying to do Vonnegut!? This whole book is full of allusions to many things in history but one that stood out to me was that"an atomic bomb had been dropped on Hiroshima" (185). That was such a primary part in winning the war that whenever it is mentioned, it is known right off the bat. Vonnegut is getting guttsy...

Chapter 8-Doomed.

When I read about Debry being doomed, it made me think of the times in life when you're down and you can't help but feel the world is ending. Then I thought of a song that I sometimes listen to when I need to get away from my worries. The song is called Flight and all it's really saying let me be free while I can. Save the worries for another day. I love this song and I would love to perform it one day.

Chapter 8-What's gonna happen next

Through out chapter 8, foreshadowing a major role...about as major as Billy is to the story. Foreshwadoing gives the reader a little insight to what might happen next. In chapter 8, Debry is labled "the doomed high school teacher" (Vonnegut 164). Through the story, Debry's death has been mentioned and foreshadowed almost every moment possible. I really can't put my finger on wheather his death will be big and slow or just boring and fast. I guess we'll find out soon!

Chapter 7-Theatre.

Now when I think exaggerations and drama my mind finds its way to...theatre of course. If any of you know me, I live for the stage. Everything I do is for the stage and drama itself. I feel like this book is a major drama and if if was to be made into a play, I might just audition. haha. Anyway, life on the stage can get rough, just like the life of time traveler.

Chapter 7- Dont be overdramatic

For the past few chapters, I've kind of noticed that somethings in this book seem to be a little crazy...and by crazy I mean way over dramatic! Nothing in this book is an understatment! Every line in the book, including the description of the plane crash in chapter 7, seems to be way over done...which I don't really mind. I'm dramatic myself. haha. Again, everything about Vonnegut seems to be dripping with exaggerations. During the story, as Billy is dreaming the line "he dreamed millions of things, some of them true" (157) pops up. Can one really dream a million dreams?

Chapter 6-Not knowing whats ahead.

During this chapter, I couldn't help but be a little envious of Billy's ablilty to time travel and see the future. I'm scared of the future. College mainly. I'm not ready for what lies ahead and knowing might ease that fear. Until we figure out a way to time travel in real life, I guess I'm stuck waiting and wondering. Bring it on life, show me whattcha got!

Chapter 6-Changing

The time has come! In chapter 6 we finally see a dynamic charcter in Mr. Billy Pilgrim. He has become a new person. A man who wants to change the world rather than sit by and let someone else do the changing. He is to the point where threats don't scare him anymore. He's become stronger beacause "he has seen his own death many times"(Vonnegut 144). His death would be infront of many people and only he could know when it was to happen. I guess that would give a person confidence....which in the end could be dangerous.

Chaptar 5-Godspell

Over this summer, I have had the opportunity to be in another production of Godspell. Going along with free will and the powers that be, I was able to explore what I believe. Like Billy, I have my own views on life and why things happen. Godspell has really opened my eyes to some amazing parts of life and some that are not so amazing. I hope that every person is able to experience life in their own way with all views living together...but that would be a perfect world...and the world is not perfect by far. What we can do is work towards that perfect world.

Ps: Godspell opens August 10 and runs through the 19. Be there.

Chapter 5-Oh the Irony

Now that Billy is trapped in a zoo cage, he has time to thing about what life truly means. He begins to question many things like war and life itself. Soon after, the aliens begin to try and convince them that there is no such thing as free will. Which is truly ironic because Billy wants to spread that message now. It seems sometimes that we live in a bubble or our "head[is] was encased in a steel sphere which he could never take off"(Vonnegut 125). Reading a chapter like this does make you think. Some stuff in this world just doesnt add up and others are just too good to be true. I don't get it.

Chapter 4-Sleep

I feel for Billy in this chapter. The fact that he can't sleep because of the future sounds just like me. So many things run through my mind in the middle of the night that I can't fall asleep. Which college to go to? What are my grades looking like? How the heck am I going to memorize that entire monologue? I'm sure that every person can relate to how Billy feels...minus the alien abduction of course. Either way, I hate not being able to sleep.

Chapter 4-Motivated to be kidnapped

As we dive into chapter 4, we find Billy awake in the middle of the night before his daughter's wedding. He cant sleep beacause he knows that the aliens are about to come and kidnap him. Time traveling can bite him in the butt sometimes, huh? After stepping outside, he is abducted and "the terrific accleration of the saucer as it left Earth twisted Billy's slumbering body, distorted his face, dislodged him in time, sent him back to the war" (77). I feel like the motivation for Billy to be kidnapped was the fact that he traveled to the future and saw it happen. If he hadn't, he would have been fast asleep.

Chapter 3-Soliders

After reading chapter 3, I couldnt help but not think of all the soilders overseas. The countless days spent away from their families and friends fighting for our freedom kept popping into my head. Though I've never been directly affected by losing someone to the war, I had forgotten how many lives are lost every day. A father or mother, sister or brother, son or daughter that will never come home to his or her family. I pray for every soul that is fighting for us and for every soul lost in the fight. After reading of the two soilders shot in the book, it really opened my eyes to the harsh reality of war.

Chapter 3- An image

After being captured by German soilders, Weary and Billy are ushered in a line of POWs. Luckily for Billy, he blinks away from the Germans and is now driving to the Lions Club. What I found extremly profound in this chapter was the imagery. As nasty as it sounds, after reading the line “the two scouts who had ditched Billy and Weary had just been shot…They had been discovered and shot from behind. Now they were dying in the snow, feeling nothing, turning the snow into the color of raspberry sherbet. So it goes” (Vonnegut 54), I was really hungry for raspberries. Vonnegut has a way with words like no other. I can honestly picture Billy getting kidnapped by the Tralfamadorians...which is a little creepy to be honest.

Chapter 2-Traveling through time

I am a fan of sci fi and all that comes with it. When time traveling was introduced into the story...lets just say I did want to put the book down. I mean, who wouldn't want to time travel!?!? Yes, it has its bad sides, but would you love to know the next lotto numbers or see who you're going to marry? Time travel can get confusing. I couldn't help but think of a scene from the movie "Spaceballs". In the scene, Lord Helmet is trying to figure out what is going to happen next and ends up getting confused to the point of screaming. I'm a nerd, I know.

Chapter 2-What is going on?!

After reading chapter 1, my hopes for the book were not very high but chapter seemed to change that. The story began to pick up when Billy Pilgrim a "funny-looking youth--tall and weak, and shaped like a bottle of Coca-Cola" (Vonnegut 23) is introduced. Though I am enoying the book so far, I'm having troubles with Vonnegut's diction. I'm not the smartest tool in the shed, but I'm struggling a bit. The twists and turns that the story takes due to Billy's ability time travel are very hard to follow at times. Having "seen his birth and death many times, he says, and pays random visits to all the events in between" (Vonnegut 23), must be a hard life to lead. I'm excited to see what happens in Billy's future...or past?

Chapter 1 (Connection)

Throughout chapter one, Vonegut begins to confront his past and accept what the future holds. He realizes that war will happen and there is no changing that sad fact. The realization that somethings in life cannot be stopped brings me to a recent experience with one of my close friends. We had both been busy for the past few months and it seemed that we had been drifting apart. Relationships end: it's yet another sad fact of life. Realizing that war, like a realtionship coming to an end, will happen is a major theme that Vonegut is beginning to shed light on.

Chapter 1 (Lit Terms)

At the beginning of the chapter, Vonegut talks about the conflict of war and his anitwar book. It seems that he might have an internal conflict with war and what it creates. He realizes the distruction that war causes and the long-lasting effects that it has on all aspects of life. Vonegut compares war to an always moving glarcier and "what he meant, of course, was that there would always be wars, that they were as easy to top as glarciers" (pg 3). He then takes a trip to Dresend where begins flashback to the firebombing.
